Private school fees in Sydney: what parents can compare

Sydney private school fees vary by school, year level, campus, and what is included in compulsory charges. A useful comparison looks beyond a single tuition line and models the pathway your child is likely to follow.

Sydney parents often compare schools across very different local markets: inner suburbs, the North Shore, the eastern suburbs, the Hills District, the Inner West, western Sydney, and nearby regional options. The headline fee is only the starting point.

Compare the same year level first

A Kindergarten or Year 7 fee should be compared with the same entry year at another school. If one school publishes a primary fee and another publishes a senior secondary fee, the comparison will be distorted.

Check what is bundled into the fee

Tuition may be shown separately from compulsory levies.
Building, capital, technology, resource, and activity charges can change the annual total.
Some costs are billed once at enrolment rather than every year.
Transport, devices, uniforms, and co-curricular programs may sit outside the published fee.

Primary and secondary can be very different

A school that looks manageable in the early years may become a different proposition in secondary. If you are planning for a long pathway, model each year rather than multiplying the first visible fee by the number of years remaining.
